William Clark Barger was born in Cadmus, Ohio in Gallia County. His parents were James and Alice Lowry Barger. He was the nephew of Dr. Joseph, Dr. Sarah, and Dr. Andrew Lowry. In his youth, he was educated in Ironton Schools. He resided in Ironton and Kitts Hill.
His uncle, Dr. Joseph Lowry, died mysteriously in 1933. Although his murder remains unsolved, William was rumored to have been involved with his murder. No evidence has ever concretely linked him to the murder.
On a cold winter’s day, William’s car hit an icy spot on the Highway 141. It ran over an embankment and crashed into a tree. The accident occurred about four miles north of Ironton. He died from the injuries resulting from the accident on February 2, 1961. He was buried in Section 9 of Woodland Cemetery.
